As his former eye doctor, I see the concerns that the public has about the potential lack of focus that he has shown since he has been leading the FBI.
When he was my patient, I often told him that it would be hard to keep the country safe when you can’t focus on what’s in front of you.
The first time he took his eye off the ball wasn’t in the handling of the Epstein files, but when he came into my office to tell me about when he was playing pickleball with fellow failed podcasters and turned around to yell, “ICE IS NICE,” to a group of people he believed to be illegal immigrants, and was unfortunately hit with a stray pickleball not long after.
He told his fellow failed podcasters that he needed ice on his eye to reduce the swelling, but also needed to see more ICE in the streets because, “Immigrants are why my eye hurts.”
It was not my place to tell him if he was right or wrong. I was more concerned about the cuts to healthcare that have been cutting into my patients’ ability to pay their copays, and me being able to pay myself.
As I sift through the mountains of paperwork from insurance companies, he is currently testifying to the Senate about the issues at the FBI under his leadership and the handling of the investigation surrounding Charlie Kirk’s killer.
They are looking to see if he is fit for the position, and if he truly has a vision for the future of federal law enforcement.
I do not know the answer to that question, but I do know that if he works on being able to focus on one thing, that would be good for everyone.
